SAR Membership Brochure

Joining the Spartanburg Association of REALTORS®, Inc. as a REALTOR® member automatically extends membership to the South Carolina REALTORS® (SCR) and the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR).

What is a REALTOR®? A REALTOR® is a professional real estate practitioner not only directed to provide proficient services by the law, but guided by a Code of Ethics that is set by the Spartanburg Association of REALTORS®, the South Carolina Association of REALTORS® and the National Association of REALTORS®. Committed to the highest standards of excellence, a REALTOR® is dedicated to providing outstanding and equitable services to all clients and customers. The term REALTOR® and the accompanying emblem are registered trademarks.

A Wealth of Resources

The REALTOR® symbol is the key to a wealth of resources, products and services available to a member of the REALTOR® organization. The Code to Ethics of the National Association of REALTORS® is universally recognized as the measure of professionalism in real estate. Adherence to the code is the first great bond between REALTORS® across the nation, ensuring higher standards of professional conduct in serving the interests of your clients and customers.

Local Membership Benefits

Networking – SAR's quarterly membership meetings offer members a great opportunity to network with fellow members. These events are offered to SAR Members at no charge.

Community Involvement – SAR believes in giving back to the community. Our Association hosts several fund raisers throughout the year for local charities. The Association also volunteers once a month at the Soup Kitchen.

Education – SAR is an approved Provider of continuing education courses. We offer continuing education courses onsite to SAR members at a discount. SAR also offers free education workshops and Broker-in-Charge updates throughout the year.

New Member Orientation – This course is for new applicants and covers local, state and national information, anti-trust, fair housing, Code of Ethics, contracts, agency and more.

Professional Standards - One of SAR's objectives is to encourage and foster high ethical standards in our profession through the adherence and enforcement of the REALTOR® Code of Ethics of the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS®, Inc.

Mediation/DRS – Mediation is offered to members as an efficient means of resolving conflicts and as an alternative to arbitration. SAR also provides information about the Dispute Resolution System (DRS) as an alternative solution in resolving disputes between buyers and sellers.

Local Association Web Site – The SAR web site provides a public and private resource featuring active properties, membership roster, helpful links and more…

Information and Communications – SAR publishes a bimonthly newsletter and sends out frequent broadcast email updates containing upcoming events, educational offerings and pertinent information.

Legislative Advocacy and RPAC - SAR has a part time Governmental Affairs Director (GAD) to represent our local Association. The GAD monitors local legislation and communicates legislative activity impacting SAR and our REALTORS®. The GAD also maintains a direct line of communication with the State Association and. National Association legislative divisions. SAR members are encouraged to become involved in the political advocacy by (1) investing in the REALTORS® Political Action Committee (RPAC), which is a powerful voice on issues that affect the real estate industry; (2) respond to Calls to Action; (3) get to know their legislators and elected local government officials.

Multiple Listing Service – The MLS is a separate service with fees that provides all the necessary tools and training to help participants better serve their clients and customers. Some of these tools include: Local forms, Courthouse Retrieval Systems (CRS), ListHub, and REALTOR® Property Resource (RPR).

State and National Associations Benefits

Professional Development and Education – Members can achieve success and earn more by attending high quality educational and designation programs. The State and National Associations also offer frequent webinar programs on a variety of topics.

Discounts – Members receive exceptional discounts on REALTOR® events, education courses, insurance coverage, phone service, next day package delivery, car rentals, standard legal contracts (hard copy and software packages), and much more.

Legal Hotline – The State Association offers a hotline for members to call with legal questions regarding such issues as agency, disclosure and other legal matters REALTORS® face in today's real estate industry.

Tech Helpline - The State Association offers a tech helpline for members to call with questions regarding hardware, software, networking and digital devices.

ZipForms - The State Association offers members local and state forms using Zipforms software.

Governmental Relations – "The Voice for Real Estate," stay informed and feel good knowing you are well represented on key issues affecting your livelihood; take part in Calls to Action, Grassroots Networking, REALTORS® Political Action Committee (RPAC) and Issues Mobilization. The State Association also provides a weekly Quality of Life report update to members through broadcast emails.
